The Liberates
The ship had left the dock of my home town, sailing across the clear blue sea. The boat, (The Liberates) was a small boat where I lived in my home town of Azerak, in the year 1983. My family was poor but this was my chance to shine. I was Charlie, only 13 years of age on this ship, the Liberates captained by Reese. I was awarded a prize of 5000 pounds if I could complete my journey and win around the world. Only 10 people were chosen for this crew and I was lucky enough to be one of them. There were ten other ships around the region including the Liberates but only one ship received a shared about of the money. Not much of the world had been found so each of the crew members had to create a map and was awarded an extra bonus money if there ship won and a person within that ship with the most detailed map.
It was day three of our voyage and I was sea sick from the boat rocking side to side. No land had been encountered yet so I haven’t started on my map yet. Days had past bye then weeks but no land had been found yet. We were still heading east and each and every morning Reese would gather up the crew and train them with fighting techniques because he knew there would be fights along the way.
“Land Ahoy!” shouted Reese firmly.
Finally land has been spotted I thought to myself. It had been 2 months and I knew there was a long journey yet to come..
We sailed ashore and debris of what looked like an old ship was scattered across the shore of the beach.
“Josh you keep lookout and give us a shout if you see anyone,” Reese said. The crew and I ventured deep into the jungle on the beach and I took notes of what I saw. The island wasn’t very long, only taking us several minutes to reach the other side. Many spiders and creepy crawlies surrounded the island but I stayed strong. We started heading back until I spotted an unusual rock. I walked towards it and to my surprise on the other side was a passageway leading deep down.
“We should check it out,” I shouted to my other crew members. “We also get money for treasure that we find.”
The crew, single file made their way with brightly lit torches down the tunnel and then we heard a scream. It was a scream of Josh, our lookout from inside the tunnel. We rushed down the staircase and to my surprise I saw Josh, dead bleeding on the ground.
“He’s dead,” Reese said.
We ventured further and all I could defend myself with was a katana and my skills I had learned from Reese. Suddenly someone grabbed me from behind and I started to scream. Reese quickly slashed at whom was holding me and he let out a blood curling scream.
“Run, back to the ship!” Reese shouted to the crew members. Everyone sprinted up the stairs and out of the dark passageway and headed for the beach. When we were there the ship was burnt to a crisp the enemy were getting closer and already 2 out 10 crew members were killed. There were about 10 enemy creatures. A cross from half ape half bear. Legends have it that they were the mighty fearsome Wargels long lost after the great war. Soon we were bombarded by Wargels. I was thinking to myself what do I do………
